HI All,

I've kept the details vague to avoid any embarrassment but I'm after some advice. I've booked a very exotic (read expensive holiday of a lifetime) nature holiday with a well respected award winning nature & travel photographer but he has unfortunately been diagnosed with cancer and although the prognosis is good he can no longer go.

Although the holiday was something I had thought about I only really booked the holiday on the strength of his credentials and although he is now unable to go the trip is still be planned to go ahead with detailed written gides etc. There are 5 others on the trip but I'm feeling that I/we would be missing out without him being there especially as he's got detailed and invaluable knowledge of the location and its inhabitants.

So, the question is would you cancel or go without him?

Cheers,

I probably would unless they offer a discount. You have most likely paid a premium because of his leading it.

I am assuming that you have paid extra to have the travel tog and his experience on the holiday, so whilst what has happened is very sad, if you go on the trip then surely you should get a reduction in cost, which then makes it an easier decision to go on the trip?

If the cost is the same, then I would be inclined to cancel (assuming you can without charge) and book something else.

Thanks for the replies.

The website does say we have paid a premium for his expertise but it doesn't say what that is.

We have also had to book the international flights (£900) ourselves so the insurance may not cover this which is something else we have to consider.

find out what the premium is and get that refunded

then go on the holiday

Hi All,

It turns out that he isn't 'paid' a premium, he just saves a ton of cash by doing a group booking rather han going by himself. My insurance says that because the trip is still on (4 of the other 5 have agreed to go) even without him, I can't claim so it looks like I'm going anyway!

Thanks for the replies.

Looks like you got a result, let's hope the other guy recovers from the cancer...
