I'm looking at getting some new glass for wildlife and i was thinking about the sigma 150 -500 however at £750 it's a bit pricey for me at the mo, so i also thought about a 70 - 300 with a teleconverter on it but i think quality may suffer.
So have any of you guys gone down this road and what were your findings.
Any help much appreciated.

Thanks for that mark but i was wondering if folks had the choice between a lens and converter or a longer lens which would they choose and why.

The 300 f4 AFS + TC would be my choice over the sigma zoom, or the 80-400 VR. I do not think that the 70-300 will work with the Nikon TC.

This is the 300 f4 AFS + 1.7TC 3200 ISO (shot at f7.1) Although I would suggest that you got the 1.4TC first.

If cost is an issue get yourself a Nikon 300f4 AFD and add a 1.4tc at a later date. A superb lens and good secondhand bargains to be had. If you have a but more go for the AFS version.

Sense...............

The siggy 70-300 isn't that sharp at the long end to start with, adding the TC will not improve things and take it beyond the F5.6 limit for AF.

The others have the right idea.
