What would I need to get effects like this?

I really want to do club-photography but how do you get effects like the above and the commonly mentioned, 'DontStayIn.com'

I've asked a few people and got mixed responses. I'm quite new to photography and own a 450D -- what equiptment do I need to achieve that effect, and how?

If you have Lightroom... try the direct postive preset.

Have a look at my flickr ive got a few. On camera flash with a slow shutter speed to then bring in some light. i shot mine at "1/4 @ F4
