what way to go with camera upgrade

Hi looking to upgrade camera from oly 500 the oly just seems to be a littel slow at just 3 fps have taken some craking pics with it been a good start
i have been looking at eos50d and a Sigma APO 70-200mm f/2.8 II APO EX DG HSM as i shoot manly equine pics just woundred what your opinion was on choice of camera and lens ? any outher options

50D's a solid camera and you should be able to get it at a good price as it's been around a while and all the rumours are that it's heading towards replacement soon.
I've got the 40D (the 50's better) and have taken some decent equine stuff without such a good lens so you should have no problems. There's a good few equine togs on here so they may be able to give you a better insight into lens choice.

Budget? As if your going all out (im not familiar on the canons so im not going to recommend one but there are ofc the canon equivs of what i mention) d700 and a nikon or a sigma 70-200, the low light performance from what ive seen is pretty key for equine stuff and you cant beat full frame for that.
