Hello all,

I brought a cheap lens from eBay and although it is in excellent condition ( as described) it is not M42 screw mount as described. The lens cap body end has Olympus markings. I just want to have a bit more ammo for my complaint.

Could be pentax.
 
That said, it could actually be a Hanimex mount as they did make 35mm cameras.
 
Looks like an OM fit mount to me. Picture below is of an Olympus Zuiko 50mm f1.8 - 16 lens, red arrow shows the lens release button (other button on opposite side is depth of field preview), blue arrow shows aperture coupling lever which tells the meter what aperture has been set and green arrow shows the aperture close down lever which closes down the aperture when the shutter is pressed.

The 'blue' lever should move in concert with the aperture ring. The green lever should be able to be freely moved by hand but will be spring-loaded to return to its rest position as shown above.

Hanimex did not make cameras.

They sold rebadged versions of low cost cameras made by a variety of manufacturers. See this page: https://camerapedia.fandom.com/wiki/Hanimex

The SLR ranges they sold were generally badged with "Hanimex" followed by the manufacturer's name. So far as I can find out, the only SLRs they handled were Pentacon/Praktica and Topcon.

One other thing I hadn't realised until looking at the mount closely today is that the three bayonet flanges are all different lengths - see attached with approx lengths in mm.

The bayonets are generally different sizes so stop people fitting the lens upside-down. However, with those particular flange sizes that is definitely Olympus OM mount – I just checked on an Olympus lens.
 
In my naivety I had always assumed that the spacing of the flanges was different, it hadn’t occurred to me that the flange lengths were also different until I had a good look at the mount today.

This is how Canon stop you fitting an EF-S lens to an EF mount.
