I have just sold a few of my lenses. 24-105L, 70-200L f4 IS, 100-400L, 85mm f1.8 & nifty 50.

I sold them to rationalise my outfit as I caould not carry them all at once especially with the 30D and 5D bodies, 12-24 Sigma, 17-40L, 100mm macro and a 1.4x EF MkII converter.

I now have just over £2000 available and propose to buy a new 24-70L, 70-200L f2.8 IS but have enough left over to buy a 2x EF MkII Converter too.

My question is this, how good is the IQ of the 70-200L F2.8 IS when used with a 2x converter?

I was always pleasantly surpiised with the quality of the 70-200L f4 IS when used with the converter, but I am a realist and understand that the 2x converter will not be as good as that, so is it useable.

Do I buy the x2 or not?

Can anyone post some pictures taken with a 70-200L f2.8 IS and 2x converter please if they have some.

The IQ of the 2x converter is not a patch on the 1.4x. I'd stick with the 1.4 cos I think you'll be disappointed with the 2x

This is the only shot I have with the 70-200 2.8 and 2XTC

It doesn't look that good tbh and quality suffers as you enlarge the image. I agree the 2XTC is a bridge too far really with a zoom, but I suppose it's better than no shot at all?

Compared to the cost of lenses though, it seems to me that for the comparative cost of the converters you might as well get both, although truthfully I rarely use them behind anything but primes.

The lens and 2XTC both arrived in the same post so I fitted them, walked outside and couldn't believe my luck to get this shot. It had been raining for 3 days and the birds were ravenous, they couldn't seem to care less about my presence at all.
