What to do with my 33.3 rpm collection?

Yes
I have a stack of 40 or so LPs gathering dust. I've replaced all the ones I want with CD versions.
It seems a shame to just dump them, but what do I do with them? They are too heavy to post unless someone has more money than sense.
They range from Cream double album, most Pink Floyd, Elton John, Moody Blues (well we all bought them, didn't we?) and many others in that ilk. Some folksy stuff - Unhalfbricking must be one of my favourites of all time - and a variety of classical stuff from Rite of Spring to Beethoven and Also spracht Zarathusa.

There mut be a use for them, but what? Can't find a local shop that deals in these things, and it's not worth going to a boot sale with them.

Suggestions?

Make a list and stick them on your local gumtree free for uplift or your local freecycle , I took my lot to the Red Cross charity and they sold them on, always someone looking to collect these

I did look at eBay, but Dark side was only making £8 just after Rick Wright died when there was all the nostalgia stuff. And it had all the postcards and posters. Can't think any of the others will fetch even that.
A charity shop sounds a good idea - I've got a pile of stuff to go there soon.

Frame a few of the nice ones, they make right nice piccies :-)

No, don't think so. They are "used"! A bit scratched and with bent corners. My photos are nicer - and that's not saying a lot!!!

I had a similar quantity of old plastic to dispose of so took it all down to a local 2nd hand record place and got £150 for the job lot. Same sort of stuff but without the Moody Blues (I'm a few years younger than you!!! ;)). Had the offer been cheekier, I'd have charity shopped it all and sod'em (the dealer!)

If you give them away then there are no comebacks from punters saying they are too scratched or won't play properly, plus it saves you having the hassle of punters coming to your house at odd hours wanting to buy 1 or 2.

If your going to give them away, Frank, I will come and take them off your hands. I'm looking for a turntable at the moment so I can start playing records again at home.

Gareth, you are more than welcome to them. Usual note of caution...they have been used! As far as I know they all play perfectly well. I used to have some top end gear and tried to look after them, but there are bound to be imperfections. Covers are also a bit "distressed" but are more or less intact.

You are more than welcome to have a little trip over sometime. Just say when.

Gareth, just thinking ahead...SWMBO and I are off to the Lakes for a weekend of pampering/debauchery (maybe) on Sat 19th. We will be on M6 and I can easily arrange to be at Standish junction for 10AM. Meet at the BP station? Let me know; it will save you a journey.

Unfgortunately mine doesn't come with Raquel Welch. The whole pice by Wagner falls apart a bit after the well known opening.

o_O Eh? Also Sprach Zarathustra was composed by Richard Strauss. And Welch didn't appear in 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Make some artwork out of them. Melt them into bowl shapes.

Ah yes. That's the trouble with us oldies. The memory goes, then the body goes, then sanity goes.......

Just found some relatively recent shots of Mrs Welch and while they can't show the memory or the sanity, they do show that her body is in remarkably good shape for a lady in her mid 70s.

I got here too late! I'd hve them aswell.

I want my kids to experience playing records.

Hi Frank. That would be perfect. I'm shooting a wedding on the 29th but not sure what time I'm starting. Meeting the couple this Saturday to confirm. If I can't be there I'll ask my Dad to pop up if he's available. Either way we can sort it. Many thanks.

Gareth, I presume you mean 19th? We'll talk by PM next week. You are more than welcome to them.

Sorry and all that. Gareth lives just up the road from me so he was always going to be in pole position. If it falls down you can have first refusal.

No problems. According to SWMBO I never know what day it is either?

I met your dad at Manchester Airport in March. Well sort something out next week.

Just playing some Rod Stewart! Thanks so much, Frank. Made up! [emoji4]
