This is driving me daft. If I take shots with the 17-40L and open the images in Canon DPP software, I get this lens symbol in the top right hand corner of the thumbnails.

I don't get it with any other lens. Does anyone have the foggiest idea what it's for - it's not clickable.

It's something to do with lens correction has been applied to the shot, under the tool palette look under the NR/Lens tab and it will tell you whats been applied.

I think it's the 'White lens' warning - suggesting you're a poser/plonker for buying such ;)

LOL It's a black lens though. :D

I think Scraggs might have sussed it - off to check.

Top man Scraggs! It's peripheral illumination in my case as that's the only option under lens correction I have enabled. Mystery solved.

is that just an odd name for vignette correction?
Basically yep. :D I didn't even know I had it enabled tbh and I wouldn't have thought it would have been much of an issue with a crop sensor. Ticking and unticking the box though, it does brighten the image.
