What strap do I need for D700? Plus some other questions!

Yes
I was gifted a D700 this week but I need to get a strap for it. There are several different straps on the nikon website, and I'm not sure which one would be suitable, so if anyone could advise that would be great!

Also, which memory card would be best for this camera? I have a couple of 8gb CF cards but ideally I'd prefer a bigger card.

And any card reader recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

iirc the max card size for the D700 was 8GB, I think they did a firmware update which allowed 16GB cards. I use a Lexar Workflow card reader, works well. As for straps, may be worth looking at black rapid and peak design (I'm sure there are others too) - but they are fairly personal. I rarely use a strap at all tbh (I tend to wrap it around my hand) so am not best placed to advise.

I think the question 'Which strap should I get?' is probably the one question on here which is guaranteed to receive the most varied replies. :D

I use a Peak Design Slide, personally. Thought it was ridiculously priced for a strap before I bought it, regretted spending the money immediately after I ordered it, loved it to bits and would buy again with no regrets when it arrived.

Mine accepts 16GB Extreme Pro, it came with the latest firmware :)

I've got a 32gb in my camera for weddings [emoji141]

I use OpTech neoprene straps on all my heavier cameras. Never got on with the Black Rapid type straps unfortunately, the idea appeals to me but I find them uncomfortable.

Another vote for Op-tech I find them suitably comfortable with what is a very heavy camera when a lens is attached.

I also use the optech neoprene straps but would love to try the slide. Just need to save up....[emoji41]

Sorry, TG, I am getting old replied to an incorrect post. For some reason I thought you had a PD slide that you may be looking at selling and not one of the optech one.

Sorry.

No probs :)

I too use op-tech and now mainly pd slide, if you don't get on with the peak design, you'll be able to sell it on easily.

Strap is a personal thing, I have a black rapid somewhere in the house that i don't use, in fact, i once used it as a strap for my tripod just to make use of it.

I have a Peak Slide that i don't really like due to the metal clasp.

I like simple straps, plain, no logo, 1 colour, NO METAL parts. Currently have leather straps on my Canon.

everyone has mentioned the size of card to use (GB) but forgot to mention the MB/s speed of the card. Slower the speed cheaper the memory card and can cause a camera to stall in continuous shooting as the buffer (transfer from camera to card) has to catch up. . I prefer a 90MB/s card to prevent this happening but I would not recommend anything less than a 60 MB/s card. I have always used Sandisk memory cards and they come, or used to, with a photo memory recovery number providing if memory card has not been reformatted after use.

i use a 128gb cf card in mine cf cards are expensive
i bought an adapter from flea bay that accepts sd card as they are cheaper than cf cards
so you can buy a fast writng sd card put it in the adapter and bobs your uncle

SanDisk Ultra and Extreme range of CF cards. Extreme might be too fast for that camera so Ultra would be a good choice. The Extreme will work, the camera just won't utilise the potential of the speed.

Surely you should get the nikon 100th anniversary edition strap :p

On a more serious note I personally use peak design slide and Dave is selling one for a good price (nearly 50% off)
I especially like it since its so easy to take off the strap and clip it back on (y)
