Yes
'Someone' has taken one of my pics and done this to it.
I'm interested it what software was used - I'd quite like to give it a go myself?
It looks like they went to the trouble of avoiding the eyes.
(I assume it's probably Photoshop - I don't have that unfortunately).

whatever it was i wouldnt bother , it looks like one of those nasty filter effects used nearly exclusively by first time users and kids ... (that said you can probably do it in gimp etcif you really must - most photo editors have those filters)

I hate to corrupt your morals further but if you don't have PS you can also use online things like this http://funny.pho.to/antique-oil-painting/ - just remember that every time you use a cheesy effect a kitten dies (this also applies to colour popping, bride in a wine glass, and teenygroom held in a brides hand )

(oh and T you are neither tacky nor nasty - the images you might create with these filters on the other hand :exit: )

You can do it in GIMP - Oilify then Apply Canvas in filters.

Virtual painter 5

'For the transformation of photo files into Van Goughesque oils, colorful pencil art, and sweeping water colors is impressive.
Virtual Painter 5 gives you 16 artistic styles and 20 canvases to achieve your look, and lets you make further adjustments to focus, scale, and rendering, among other parameter.
We prefer the sliding scale and numeric inputs of Expert mode to the vague descriptors of "subtle," "normal," "intense" in the standard adjustment pane.
Tweaks to contrast, brush angle and brush size, and color spectrum are sorely missed, but despite that, playing around with the painterly modes is addictive.'

I've used it in the past and it's quite good :)

Free trial available.

Ha, my Dad went through a phase a few years ago of applying these and sending them to me looking for praise like he'd actually painted them.

Where does it rank vs. the 'Pencil Sketch' effect?!

Install the G'MIC plug in. Among it's huge list of useful things, G'MIC has loads of cheesy filters.
I know people always mention plug ins (e.g., for lightroom) but I don't really know what they are. If I go off and google how to do it, are they pretty straightforward for a luddite to install?

Update - Forget it. I can't even seem to download gimp - doesn't seem very mac friendly.
Hey ho!

I just type gimp into the app store, click install, and it appears on my computer. Can't you do that on a Mac? There is even a 'Get all plugins' checkbox.

Plug ins add extra commands to integrate into a program. Sometimes niche things and some with broad appeal.

There are a number of effects that youcan achieve with TOPAZ. I have just changed my avatar in a few moments with it, but I'm no oil painting. Is that what you are looking for?
