Looking to buy an umbrella mainly for indoor use in houses for family type photo's. I have in my head what stands and adpaters I want to buy I'm just not sure what size umbrella to go for?

There seems to be quite a variation in sizes, I was thinking of going around 36inch for indoor use but would this be too small or detrimental in any way?

I've used a lot of bounced and redirected flash indoors but this is the first time I've considered shooting through to help difuse, so excuse the rookie question :)

I like the 42 inch westcott shoot throughs. You can get ones that collapse right down like the small rain brollies and they just about fit in a big pocket. Very handy for being mobile and you can collapse them down to make it easy to move around in smaller spaces.

It wasn't so much mobility moving the around, more the size when in use indoors :)

Yeah the 42 inch is fine, I just really also like being able to collapse it down to about 12 inches long, much easier to move your lighting set up through doorways etc while its still connected to the stand.

There's no need to spend that much money, but I agree on size.

Do a search in the UK for one. Westcott gear is stupid money over here.

Have you tried somewhere like b and h in the states? I buy heaps of gear from them, min. Shipping is about $60 AUS so you need to buy a few things to make it worthwhile but can save a heap.

Completely not worth it anymore. The pound is too weak against the dollar and with import duty and shipping...
