Hi ,

i'm wanting to purchase a decent SLR camera but at the cheaper end of the price scale, as im very new to all this and dont wanna throw all my money onto something extravagant until i improve more.

Basically i want the camera for stil shots of the cars and motion shots (i.e im attending alot of track days this year and would love to be able to take some shots of the car and my friends cars.)

anyone tell me what kind of camera and lens/lens's to buy? sorry for the total newbie question.

Kelly,

if you are starting from scratch, you will have to consider a budget for a camera, a lens and a memory card as a minimum, then potentially add on a few £££'s for a bag to carry it in.

I was in the same situation around 15 months ago and my advice would be buy second hand on a well looked after camera. I started with a Nikon D70s, similar low budget Canon would be a 350d, there are plenty of other brands too used by members on this forum!

For me, the D70s was fantastic to learn on and couldn't recommend it highly enough. I would have thought you can pick up a second hand one for around £200, maybe £225.

I was in your position about 6 months ago, i went out and go my samsung gx1l it came with two kit lenses. The litte thing has done me proud but if i really thought about it before hand would have looked into avalabilty of lenses.I found it harder to get add ons for the samsung, i would check and make sure u can get a dslr that you can afford to expand ur kit so you dont have to buy another body for a while(if you understand that your better than me)
