ok at present i have a Epson XP-245 which was just a cheapo special (£30) i got as did not have a working printer last one i owned was years ago (Epson 790 photo)
i find the XP-245 is not very good and has a tendency to leave cog marks etc on the print. (can't really complain for what it cost)

i have always used Epson and guess i am accustom to the brand now so that's what i would prefer.
i know my budget will limit what i can get but i am after something just for home use and the odd pic for family members etc.
mainly will be 6x4 sort of size pics but the odd one bigger.
ideally i would like to stick to a budget of £150 so what would you suggest please.
 
A home printer is something of an environmental undesirable - the heads will clog, it won't last long and will be unlikely to get recycled. Why not use an on-line print service? Prints usually arrive next day or the day after.

Otherwise, if you can stick with 6 x 4, what about a Canon Selphy?
