What on earth is this photo kit?

back in the day ,it was the long range bit of desirable kit to have ,it has a 300mm prime lens on the camera with a canon t2 adaptor at the rear end .in the right hands extremely good to

Aaah, thanks for clearing that up, for some reason I thought it had something to do with a 50mm lens, no idea why - a 300mm makes more sense although why a camera mounted to a gun is better/more effective than hand holding I'm not sure?

I have used one in the dim and distant past, and it was a very heavy beast.

I used to have one back in the film days, absolutely brilliant for panning motorsport, never had a problem
with it looking like a firearm

just down to sheer weight really and it was a different world back then a lot of lightweight aids we take for granted hadn't been invented yet ,the russians were actually making some fairly decent cheap cameras and trying to make inroads into the lens market to with typical over the top engineering which this was part of .if my memory serves me right you pressed the trigger and a long flexible inner/outer tube fired the shutter ,no fancy electronic stuff in them days.
and logically a rifle type set up is the steadiest way of obtaining a action shot , i know that about 5 years back there was a special stock being made for digital cameras and long lenses perhaps its still in production ,its just that these days some dick head would probably phone the police to report a man with a gun pointing it at people .changing world and not for the better.

yep they do here ya go

Is the trigger the shutter release? It explains why we refer to photos as 'shots'

Ah you replied whilst I was typing, so the trigger had some elaborate mechanical setup - that's pretty cool.

My film camera had a screw thread in the shutter button, you screwed a flexible cable into it and a longer piece of wire frie the shutter when you pressed the
trigger.

haha love it.. never seen owt like that before :)

carefull of the listing if interested... big letters at bottom says

ALL PICTURES ARE ACTUAL, YOU RECEIVE WHAT YOU SEE
