What monopod for a canon 1dx 2 and aSigma 150-600mm Lens

Ideally I would suggest a Gitzo GM2541 - simply because I own one and know what it can do!

Whilst it is fully up to supporting any EOS lens that Canon currently make (I used mine with a 600 F4 L IS and 800 F5.6 L IS) it does look like a matchstick hanging off the lens!

For your setup the GM2541 would, in my opinion, be the best available - but not cheap! Also have a look at the Sirui P224 and P324 - very nice Carbon Fiber mono pods at more sensible money. I have the P424 and it is a great piece of kit and almost (but not quite) up to Gitzo standards.

The Sirui's are well made and perform well - the Gitzo models are just better but more expensive!

I'm with John (above). On the occasions when I've used it, the Gitzo is up to the job.

I have similar gear, 1dx with Sigma 150-600C, I use a Manfrotto Neotec monopod that I used when doing football photography with even bigger gear. It's rated for 8Kg and has a unique and very easy system for height extension and lowering.

I use a Gitzo GM2541 and have a Gitzo swivel foot fitted (now standard on the newer Gitzo carbon monopods) - It makes a huge improvement to monopod shooting. You can pan with this and leave your head's panning locked.

Another transforming component on a monopod is the the very compact gimbal head by Jobu Design called the jr-3. It will handle a Canon 500mm F/4 without any problems.

Have and have always used Manfrotto monopod. The one I have now is about 12 years old and has been used professionally with a 300 2.8 and pro body for sports photography in all weather and still works fine.
