Hi

I've just purchased a Bowens Esprit 500w kit for my new studio, but unsure what to use for lighting the backdrop. Got money to spend but don't want to go crazy. Also want something that's reliable and won't break down every 2 mins.

All comments and suggestions appreciated.

Usual problem with this sort of thread - a bit more information will get a better answer.

How wide is the background, and how much separation between subject and background can you afford? If you are working at paper roll width - 2.7m approx, and have space to play with, then another pair of 500w heads is a good solution to give you the flexibility if one of your main heads goes down. Most modern lights have at least 4 f stop range, so the choice isn't that critical, unless you have a very small studio - or a very large one.

Every brand of lighting will have a problem at some time - people tend to remember the bad experiences and shout about them as if the manufacturers were the devil incarnate.
You have Bowens with S fit, so stick to Bowens or other makes with an S fit as well so your attachments are interchangeable if you do get a head go down any time.
