Hi folks,

Thanks to a conveniently timed family wedding in California, I am heading home via Alabama and going to the Aarons 499 at Talladega.

Has anyone been to Talladega or a NASCAR race, obviously the seating is a loooooooooong way back if you want a good view (we are high up in one of the towers) but we can see pit road over the fencing. Is it worth trying to shoot there or is it just too far. I have a D600 with 300mm lens.

Thanks.

I've been to Daytona several times ten or so years ago, if Dega is similar then you should be ok with the pit view shots, maybe try a TC with your lens ? I take it that this is the daytime race, could be tricky otherwse ? You can if you are lucky, catch a through the fence shot before the crowd marshals on scooters spot you but, hold onto your hat because the draft from those cars is fierce !
They used to be picky on what you could take into the track when I went, so you'd best check that it is okay to take your gear in, you'll find that although you are allocated a seat number, you can walk around quite freely in the stands, you may find some good vantage points that way, just don't sit in some red neck's seat by mistake :).
