Hi

I ride bmx and ive got myself a Canon 450D and i noticed alot of shots taken in the mags are very wide but is this due too a good wide angle lens or more down to a fisheye? as i would like to get something that produces similar shots

any help would be great cheers

As said above, could be either. Wide angle tries to make the image as it 'should' look i.e. it's straight lines lines are straight. Fish eyes apply deliberate distortion to create the characteristic curved lines look from straight lines. From what I remember fish eyes are very popular in skateboarding, so if it's the same styled shots, they're probably using a fish eye.
 
Do you have any examples of what you mean? Fisheyes do seem common with a lot of sports like that, but it could be an ultra-wide. If you link to some shots I'm sure people will be able to tell what sort of lens can create the right effect!

That's a fish-eye. Apart from the angle of view being absolutely massive, the edges are curved.
