Hi All,

Looking for. New lens to replace my sigma 18-250 that's started to give me a connections need cleaning fault. I have cleaned all contacts but after a few shots the fault returns. Any ideas on this would be great. As for a new lens I was thinking of a canon 15-85 or a canon 18-135 or open to any other suggestions there going to be used on a canon 40D body. Thanks in advance for any comments.

Have you cleaned the contacts on the camera body too? Some forget and just clean the lens.

The 16-85 seems very popular as a mid range zoom, and the sigma 17-70 is often compared to it. I used to have the sigma and I liked it, I had no issues with it at all, it was a great lens. However my friend also got one and he has some quite bad distortion in some of his shots, which is something I never noticed. Maybe I just had a better copy.

Yes I've cleaned all contacts on the lens and body. I've think it maybe the ribbon inside the lens and not sure if its worth getting sigma to sort it due to the costs ?

There's no harm in calling them and seeing if they'll give you a rough price after you explain the problem to them. it may not be economical though depending on the cost of the lens.

Have you tried other lenses to make sure it's not the camera body acting up?

I think I will give them a call and yes I have tried a couple of other lenses and they work fine.

The 15-85 gets a good following.

What focal length are you after - the Canon 55-250IS is a great lens, esp for the price. Then there is the Canon 70-300 IS, then you jump to the L series.

What do you want to shoot with the lens and unfortunately as is always the case, what's your budget ???

I like shooting Motorsport but I have a sigma 100-300f4 so I think it will be more as a walk around lens and some close up Motorsport
