What lens to get?

Ive just got me a D5000 body only ( was on a very good offer that I couldnt refuse ) anyway, im looking for a lens to be used mainly for landscapes but also the ocassional portrait. my budget is roughly £200, so I was thinking an older 50mm f1.8, but that leaves with with out af-s of the newer models (which I cant really afford, 50mm with af-s about £270ish). any ideas what else I could go for?
 
After the obligatory "Lens has no final "E"" rant, I would recommend the Nikon 18-70 lens which used to be supplied as the kit lens with the D70 among others. The lens is a little over your budget if bought new but can be found as good 2nd hand for around £150 (dealer price with a warranty). There may even be one in the for sale board here. Another, cheaper option would be an 18-55 which are available in either VR or non-VR guise. Not quite as good as the 18-70 but not a bad performer for the price.

Agreed.

However, if you would rather a prime lens then get the 35 1.8. :)
