hi ive only been in photography for a few months now and bourght a Canon Zoom Lens EF 75 - 300mm 1 :4-5.6 II not too long ago and am finding its very soft top end i know for a cheap lens i shouldnt expect much but have been offered a Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di LD Macro lens
does anyone know if it would be any better or just keep with what i have for now until i can afford a much better one cheers phil

If you can, at least upgrade to 70-300mm IS. This would look better. If you mostly need 300mm then there is f/4L IS USM prime, or 100-400mm f/4-5.6 L IS USM for more £££.
There are various 70-200mm version if you don't need 300mm.

ok cheers ill keep with what i have for now until i can afford a much better lens thanks for the advice

The 75-300mm lenses are truely rubbish. I dont think the L series lenses are realistic as posted as the OP is clearly on a budget.

As such I'd highly recommend the Canon 55-250 IS. It can be has for as little as £160 brand new and has supurb IS and image quality, miles better than his current zoom.

Yea, the Canon 55-250 is the way to go for the money but if you need the 300mm then you could look at the sigma 70-300mm APO. My copy gives good results and the macro function is very usefull despite not being 1:1. The major thing you will miss is the IS though (and a little bit of sharpness/contrast)
