Yes
i have a canon 24-105 L BUT YOU HAVE TO STAND A GOOD WAY AWAY TO GET A EVERY THING IN .WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD LENS TO BYE FOR THE CAMARA I WILL BE USEING IS CANON 50D THANKS

Something in lower case? :D

Yes you are right, on a crop body 24mm isn't wide enough for paddock/pitlane shots that get in whole cars.

Try something like a 17-50 instead.

Most guys I've seen in the paddock use the 16-35mm as this allows them to capture the people and the horse in the frame.

I use the 10-22 as a great wide lens and companion to my 24-105. It has the added advantage of approx 170 degrees of view at 10mm so you can get some semi fisheye type results if up close.

17-40 new? Well, back in 2003 maybe.
