Hi, I love doing portraits and have recently purchased a Canon 450d but not sure about lenses? I don't have a great budget and don't know which lenses would fit either? Any suggestions anyone? Would be much appreciated!

Very new to this!

I have recently purchased the 50mm f1.4 which I'm very pleased with - it's great for candid stuff and lets in bags of light for those indoor shots.

For a cheaper option look at the 50mm f1.8.

These will have a 80mm field of view on your crop sensor so ideal for portrait I believe.

what kind of budget do you have in mind, as its an important factor :)

if that's the budget you have to play with, your only option really would be the 50mm 1.8 - have a look at the links posted above to see what its like.

anything else is going to be around £250 second hand realistically

I think you can get the 50mm 1.8 on the class adds on here for 70 at the min...sure I have seen it for 80 (maybe amazon?)

+1 for the Canon 50mm f/1.8 it is a cracking lens for not a lot of money and although lacking in build quality it certainly has fantastic image quality.

Yep, it may be built like a kiddies toy, but the picture quality from f2.2 is fantastic. Just don't drop it!
