I know, i know, another laptop thread.
Spent most of this weekend looking back at 'what laptop' threads on here, and have really had an overload of data.
I want to upgrade from my current laptop top which is a 5yr old HP compaq and doesn't cut the mustard any more. Haven't got a big budget so macs are out of the question.
I have seen this one, HP G7-2054sa with a i5-2450m processor, 6GB ram and 1TB HDD, with onboard intel HD graphics 4000. Price £579
But the thing i'm paranoid most about is the screen! I know its much better than my existing laptop as i've had a look at some of my images on it. The spec is 17.3" HD+ BrightView LED-backlit (1600 x 900) resolution.
Now is this a bog standard screen or one of the better ones out there.
I know its no ips but can i get better for my money. Don't mind dropping the other specs down a bit to get a better screen for my money. Just getting confused now.
Forgot to say, going to use it for photo editing, cs5, pse9, browsing the web etc.
Thanks

The problem with laptop specs is that the "good" screens tend to be on the pricey computers. A quick google suggests brightview means glossy screen (not many laptops have matte screens these days) but no real reviews.

£580 for a machine that spec isn't too bad TBH.... A better screen is going to cost quite a bit more as everyone builds down to a price. I know when I was looking (I ended up with a Dell XPS) screen choice was either "bog standard" or you were £700+ for the laptop.

Thanks for the reply arad85.
I think with my budget i am looking at getting the best resolution i can get for my money. Even going up in price a bit will not get me a full HD res spec screen.
In reality i think its the holy grail to get a ips or full HD screen for sub £900.
Like you say you have got to go up a fair bit to get a decent laptop with a good screen.
Thanks again, i think i only wanted reassuring that i wasn't looking at a lame duck with the HP G7. I thought it was well specced for the money too.

Thanks

A question to ask is whether you really need a laptop? If not, you will get more for your money with a desktop machine.

If you do need a laptop, it might be worth investing in a good quality monitor which can be used in conjunction with the laptop and will give you both more space in which to work and possibly a better quality screen.

Thanks for the input Quoth.
Yeah its got to be a laptop, never get chance to get on the desk top that i've got now!
Anyway decided to get the HP G6 after all. Had another £35 off with a voucher code. So all in all i paid £545 for a not badly specced laptop, happy now.
Just got to transfer all my files over now.
