Hi guys,

I've basically been asked if I could do my local school portraits.

Trouble is what kit is absolutely essential to achieveing this please?
Any ideas where to look for the kit needed too?

I have 2 canon 20ds, 580ex flash, umbrellas, stands and a portaflash lighting kit to start but obviously need to add to this.

I could use my 70-300 IS lens for flattering results maybe or my 50mm 1.8.

Backgrounds and lights are an issue and definately battery usage for the camera and flash gun.

any current or past school photographers out there to help please?

Thanks for reading

When you say Portaflash is that a Make? EDIT sorry yep looked.

From experience. You need Pro standard lights Multiblitz, Bowens etc. Purely because other cheaper lights simply cut out when used in schools.

The cheap ones are great for the odd shot here and there with minutes between flashes, but do have a tendency to overheat and the thermal cut-outs ( Bit like you hair dryer)take over, often leaving them useless for 20 mins or so.

You may need to invest or at least hire the kit for the day.

Check out lencarta for a lighting kit. According to lencarta and Garry Edwards they can be used all day everyday.

Backgrounds and supports are available there too and on eBay etc for cheaper ones. Mine came from calumet and are very sturdy
