I am not sure what I am ding wrong when doing HDR photos. When there are people in my photos, photomatix does a poor job at trying to put them in the merged photo and puts loads of black pixels everywhere near the people.

Here have a look.

Zoom into the people on the righthand side and you will see what I mean.

Also having a problem with the photos being noisy, should I reduce the noise in the photos before creating a HDR shot or after? which is best practice?

Cant really zoom in as the flickr image is the same size as above.

If the people move, which is likely, then the merging gets confused. You would need to clone them out. HDR amplifies noise, especially when the controls are turned up. The best way of reducing it is to use more exposures across the whole dynamic range of the image and then not turn up the controls too high. Also, HDR works better outside in the golden hours (after dawn and before dusk), when the sky exposure is not so different to the buildings.

ah right I see, I am still trying to get my head around HDR, its not as simple as first thought. Maybe doing dusk/dawn shots as you said maybe better. Maybe the shots I took the light and contrast were to great. The indoor shots I took came out loads better than the outdoor ones I took.

I have tried cloning them out but it just makes a complete mess of the shot.:(
