Hello everyone,
I posted ages ago asking for recommendations for a camera for my nephew's college course and after great advice from this site got him a Canon 800D. After borrowing it a few times I decided I would buy a cheap DSLR and a bargain Nikon D5200 came up so I got it. I've been using it for a while now and really enjoy it (I actually prefer it to the newer 800D) and have bought a couple of lenses and a decent flash plus a few other bits and bobs.

Noticed this little button and after looking through the manual and online I can't find an explanation for it. None of my lenses (all Nikkor AF-S lenses) touch it so it never gets pressed in. It's shown by the red arrow in the picture below:

Not really important but I'd just like to know what it's for.

Thanks,
Finnthedude.

I know very little of Nikon but I thought there are some bodies that can AF with both variant lenses i.e. those with AF motors in the lens and those that use an AF motor drive in the body.

As the 'button' as you call it looks silvery I wonder if it is the body AF drive latching point that such lenses will engage with.

This as I infer in paragraph #1 is based on a supposition ;)

No, that's not present on the D5200 and is within the mount plate on the cameras that do have it.

It's the aperture position lever... If you mount a lens with an aperture ring it tells the camera if the ring is set to the minimum setting (e.g. f/22); if not the camera reports an fEE error because it cannot use the full aperture range.

Ah, that makes sense, thank you.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
