I'm on one of my wanderings around North Yorkshire and have forgotten my SD card reader so I'm having to take the Micro SD card out of my point and shoot, swap it with the phones own Micro SD card then Bluetooth them over which is a pain in the butt ( Especially as my very old and cheap at the time is a hand me down phone with the back held on by tape !) But I wondered if you were to plug the camera direct into the phone would the phone see the camera as an external storage device ? ( Unfortunately the Sony will not do this via USB on my PC as it doesn't like Linux). Have any of you tried this ?

I have done this using the Canon app. It easily downloads photos either as a batch or as you take the photographs . It also allows you to use the phone as a large live view viewfinder with your head away from the camera. Very useful for low level shots.

The downside is that it only stores the photos as jpegs with very long names.

Thanks John , I'll get myself a suitable USB lead and give it a go !

I think the cable is called an OTG cable or connector.

If the phone isn't OTG enabled you will need to download the appropriate app.
There are OTG checker apps you can download if you are not sure

If it is you are good to go, I always use my Android tablet this way to back up photos when i'm away.
