what flash?

Hi all im new to photography and dont know much about it. Ive got an eso 400d and im looking to add a better flash to it thats gona be good at night im not looking at spending to much on it as im only a just starting out any sugestions would be grate.

Ive been taking pictuers at night on night portrait mode and im finding that the camera takes the pictuer alot slower and there coming out a little bluerd. What am i doing wrong here

Any help would be grate

What about a 50mm f/1.8 the large aperture will let more light in, in a given space of time, which reduced the need for slower shutter speeds. It can be had for about £60-70 so probably cheaper than a flash and more useful imo (well depends what you are shooting and in what conditions)

I suggest you get a tripod. In my experience, night-time outdoor shots can lose the atmosphere if taken with a flash. A fairly decent tripod can be had for £40 and it'll solve your problem of blurry photos! And what blue eagle said is good advice too.

what ever one you get, make sure it has ETTL, not jsut TTL.

ETTL means it communicates with the camera and they both would out the settings to get the best exposure. fully automatic

would adding a flash stop the shuter speed being so slow?

if i got a tripod id have to carry it around with me which wouldnt be good when im out all day.
Im having to take the shots holding the camera cause theres alot of people about and you have to be quick to get a pic without anyone in the way.
