Its got to the point where the on board flash is simply not cutting it anymore. In 3 weeks time I will be doing some indoor shooting at an event so I need a flash that has more power / range.

Budget wise I don't want to blow the bank. Its likely the flash won't get lots of use as most of my shooting is outdoor type, urban, architecture, landscape, candid work where 9 times out of 10 you don't need a flash.

Is it possible to get a semi decent flash for an alpha at around the £100 mark or less ?

I have this flash and you get what you pay for i suppose as it is cheap. I would say its good for certain types of shots and for bouncing the light. I do more portrait work and having spent a few years using natural light and studio flash im now looking at the hvl f43AM.
The only problem i find with this flash really is the fact there is no HSS and the flash syncs at 1/250th or less so alot of the time its a high F stop and creates destracting backgrounds.

Some of the Metz and Nissin flashes (£125-£170) do Sony specific models that are quite compatible (ADI), so might be worth a look.

I just bit the bullet the other month and got the Sony HVL-F58AM for £270 from Digital Rev, and that's an excellent bit of kit, I needed it for outdoor fill flash and general wedding duties, and for the money it's a lot of flash!
