WHAT FILTER?

I am about to treat myself to a Nikon 70-200 f2.8 VR zoom. I want to fit a filter to protect it and dont want to spoil the ship with a cheap one. Any suggestions which type of filter to fit for general use?

Hoya Pro DG - either a UV or a clear one. £20-£30 worth every penny.

We use Hoya Pro 1 Digitals to protect all our lenses. No complaints from any customers.

I use B + W UV filters on all my lenses. They are very good. I get em' a Hong Kong store on ebay, just ordered one today f or my new Canon 50mm f1.4.

I removed the filter from my Sigma 24-70 after finding that the one one my 70-300 affected IQ (spotted when doing some moon shots about 3 weeks ago). Both were Hoya something-or-other UV filters. Maybe results are less noticeable on good quality glass though?

The "something-or-other" is critical here. Hoya make very good filters which aren't cheap, and they also make not-so-good filters which are cheap. If it was a Hoya Pro 1 Digital and it affected your IQ, I think we'd like to hear about it. If it was a Hoya Green ... well, let's just say I'd be less surprised.

If its any help I use a Nikon L37c on mine, though they are not made anymore, being replaced with the NC's, but they can still be found used if you look about.

The "something-or-other" is critical here. If it was a Hoya Pro 1 Digital and it affected your IQ, I think we'd like to hear about it.
