Hi all. Just a quick question... I have a Nikon d 3000 with two lenses. The standard 18-55mm lens and the 55-200mm lens too. I have a tripod and a couple of filters. If I want to advance my photography what would people advise me to look to buy?

Thanks

I started off with similar kit to you (D5000) and also started with exactly the same lenses! :)

The next lens I got was the sigma 10-20 wide angle lens. Great for landscapes/long exposures/funny pet portraits etc, and I also got a B&W 10 stop filter.

However Mark, you've not said in what direction you'd like to progress?

Welcome to TP

You dont need to buy anything, buying stuff wont make you any better, you need to learn about composition/light and get out and take shots, what sort of photography are you into?

Remote shutter release is a cheap, but very useful accessory to have

Thanks for the responses. To be honest I just want to have some fun with my camera. I think my photos are improving and I'm starting to understand light and composition of photos. Just interested in seeing what equipment people would recommend really

as Rich says a Remote shutter cable release is a good start if you havent got one

I bought a fisheye lens which turned out to be my favourite lens now, as you can correct it in Lightroom to use it for "normal" photos too!

Like you, it was just for something different I had bought the lens (Nikon 10.5mm)

A 50mm is great for portraits and they are very reasonably priced too!

.......need doesn't come into it!

Do you have editing software? I'd say that Lr would be ideal. This won't advance your photography per se but it will probably advance your creative edge. Without knowing what steps you want to take (landscape, people etc.) it's quite difficult to say what you'd need.

I would add that advancing your photography shouldn't cost you anything other than effort & determination on your part. Nothing will happen if there is no desire.

Hi Mark
My advice is the same as some others have stated........use the kit you've got and then 'see' what genre you want to pursue for now. It's all too easy to start buying gear and then never using it, I must admit I've done that.
