What Editing Software to Use

Hi All,
My old desktop finally gave up the ghost & my kind wife has bought me a Macbook Pro. Can anyone recommend good editing software package.... I was using elements 9 a while ago but I've got out of touch with it all. The Macbook comes with Iphoto but it seems a bit basic.
Any thoughts and or suggestions will be gratfully recuieved.

Hi, Depends how far you are into editing and for what?
IMO Lightroom now along with Elements is enough for the photographer, there are other more sophisticated softwares like the above mention Adobe Photoshop but is the cost justified in what you need the software for?
I also use OnOne perfect Photo Suite and there are plenty of tutorials on there site.

Until Adobe get a grip of their security flaws, I'd download Gimp and try that.
