My sensor on both my D3 and D300 are in need for a good clean. Just wondering what the best thing/process is to do so. Any advice appreciated

I've tried, visible dust Arctic butterfly brush (does not remove everything), blower (only good for light dust), sensor swab Type 3 for full frame(left horrible smear first few times), sensor clear from lenspen (probably the beat IMO)

Arctic Butterfly for the occasional dust-off...
Proper sensor swabs (get the right size for your sensor) and fluid for the even more occasional wet-clean...

Back on my old D100 I used to do the old Pec-Pad wrapped around a sawn-off Wendy's knife method with Eclipse Fluid. I ballsed it up completely the first time I had a go, but then took another stab at it and got it perfect.

Since then manufacturers realised photographers aren't all idiots and have developed proper products to let us do this ourselves, so now I use Sensor Swabs with Eclipse Fluid. :)

I usually give it a good old blast with the Giottos Rocket Blower before I take a swab to it though.

wire wool

careful - remember the incident in the USA where a forum-member was advised to 'flush' his engine following a tear-down after a lengthy period of storage...?
He flushed it with water, destroying it completely...the resulting thread went on for dozens of pages and made it to almost every motoring forum on the planet...

sensor swabs but as Arkady says make sure you get the right size for your sensor and dont be affrade to use them , done mine a couple of times a piece of wee wee

My photography "tutor" (that's in the loosest sense of the word) used to have a complete hissy fit if I ever went for mirror lock up........

However, for a general light use - rocket blower
If needs must - swabs and fluid - it's a bit arse clenching first time you do it...... how hard do I press etc etc......... but so far, touch wood, no probs.

Pecpads and eclipse fluid works for me, and a good blow out now and again.

pec pad and eclipse, i think the blower just blows more dust into your chamber and the vac from what i've read is naff

pec pad and fluid just gets rid of it and job done, less t***ting about :)
