Actually came from my wife's cooked 'iomega', her macs backup. Macs fine, but couldn't resist seeing the inside of the dead beastie after replacing the HDD.
Oh the info. was saved too. Paranoia is a wonderful thing sometimes.
You know, pretty much every Seagate hard drive I've ever used has suffered a similar fate in rather a short space of time (relative to other manufacturers hard drives).
I do similar to "dead" hard drives - actually, being a lazy bu99er, I speed things up by just slicing through them a couple of times with an angle grinder - makes it pretty hard for anyone to get any info off them, even if they really want to.
