No
Just one of those things you do on the spur of the moment, so I came across a 16MP camera I wanted years ago, so I decided to give a go and bought it. (yes someone said........what do want another one of those for you starting a collection. No guesses to who said that). So whilst she was catching up on the soaps. I just took a few shots to test it out and was quite impressed.

I suppose I'm not the only one whom gets this response.

Yeah had a similar thing "oh you starting a museum?", so far have 9 digital cameras, I think, and a few film ones :LOL:

"Yes; a collection to match your shoes/boots/bags..."

Ah, the eternal complaint of the other half. :D They will never understand. It's not about practicality. It's an expression of the poetry in our soul. ;)

I am fortunate that my lady accepts that whilst she loves her garden and all the tools and equipment required to maintain it I need to be surrounded by photographic equipment and vintage motorcycles.

Neither of us completely understands the other's obsession but with mutual respect we both enjoy our hobbies.

I always wanted a Canon T90 back in my film days (a mate had one) never got one. Fast forward to about 15 years ago and I saw one for £30, thought about it and decided to not bother. Went back next day to get it and sadly it was gone. Not that I was shooing film then, still want one but they are not cheap now, and if I'm honest I'm still not shooting film (and I have film cameras that I dont use)

(and I have film cameras that I dont use)
Me too.

Yet I keep thinking it would be nice to have another Nikon F. Perhaps someone will finally get the "digital film cartridge" working, so we can all use those old favourites...

16 megapixels is about equal to 35 mm film, if the lens used is fairly good. I have photos that were taken 25 years ago using a Sony 2.1 megapixel camera that recorded to 3 1/2 inch floppy disks and can print them with perfect results up to 8 X 10 inches in size. A little larger and artifacts start becoming visible, so no cropping at large sizes, but I have impressed many when I tell them what camera (Sony MVC-FD98) was used. I still own one Fuji 16 megapixel camera. The others are 2 Canon 77D and a 90D DSLR. I take the Fuji with me in the car, just to have just in case. It is frequently far better than using the cell phone camera, even though a lower megapixel than the cell phone. The better lens of the Fuji makes all the difference, not the high megapixels. It was also the last straw back up camera left in the car when doing wedding shoots, just in case the two 77D that were my normal wedding shoot cameras both failed somehow. I'm happy to say that the two 77D never failed me, but I could always resort to using the Fuji if I had to and save the day for both the wedding party and me. Don't ever do a wedding or other paid shoot without backups for everything.

In many cases it provides much more detail than 35mm film. I've seen A0 prints from 6 megapixel cameras that have been as detailed as 35mm Pan F prints would be.

Thanks Charleyl, never knew that......................................coming from 35mm film background myself, makes me wonder why anyone wants a high resolution camera with 40 plus megapixels. unless they are looking for large enlargements of pics.

I dont get this so much with regards to my photographic equipment, but I do get asked quite regularly why I need so many watches (I think I currently have around 28)

For me I would like to own a 1DXiii to se what all the fuss was about.
I suppose I have a small collection already of cameras sitting in various boxes in cupboards. What we all really need is a display cabinet in our homes to show of our little collection of gear !

I must admit I do like mechanical watches...........................well done Nick

I had always wanted an EOS 1Dmk4 and last year managed to buy a very nice one for £325 from LCE in Linclon (not London prices it would seem)

I absolutely love it and have used it quite a lot, it's no match for the image quality of my 5Dmk4 but the auto focus is very good considering it was introduced in 2009

And they were £5000 at introduction

It has been christened "The Beast" :)

I was I Portobello Market a few weeks ago and there was a guy with a camera stall.

Amongst them was Ricoh KR5, my first SLR. I paid £60 in for it 1984/5.

He wanted £145! I guess I could have haggled, but it wasn’t in great condition. Too much for even nostalgia. I will still keep an eye out for one.

My wife has known of my collection for years, but since I've retired she has stated suggesting I sell some. I might pass on some of my swaps after the darkroom is up & running

At least I've almost stopped buying more, under £100 on cameras/lenses/enlargers in the last year! ,

I 'm not starting a collection - honest - but my start with SLR cameras was an Exa IIB followed by an Exakta Varex IIB. I still have that Exakta, plus another 2 Varex IIBs, 2 Varex IIAs (might be three...) and a Varex 1000. And I still find myself wandering about getting another. The classifieds here have been a sore temptation.

As for David's comment on high resolution digital sensors, I suspect I'd need more than 16 megapixels to catch up to my 10x8 cameras with 80 square inches of film compared to 35mm's 1.5 square inches.

I'd guess that your 10x8's soft spot would be the lens's resolving abilities rather than the size of the recording medium.

My wife doesn't care what I buy as long as all the bills are paid first and we don't have to go without food or something :)
She also realised a long time ago that I like to chop and change; doesn't matter whether I'm talking about cameras or guitars.

By contrast, many years ago I sold a guitar that looked like this:

...to fund the purchase of a guitar that looked like this :

And when I unboxed it my girlfriend at the time laughed and said "I don't know why you've bothered, it literally looks exactly the same as the one you sold!" :D

(I'm not bitter, though) ;)

Does the Les Paul copy sound like a Gibson !

Im assuming the pick-ups in the Vintage will probably be Wilkinsons, which are pretty good in my opinion. Nice clean and warm tones etc. Whether or not they sound exactly like a Gibson...well that would be one for the purists :)

It's a long time ago now, but it was indeed Wilkinson pickups and it didn't sound bad at all. I play with quite a lot of gain so the nuances of pickups are somewhat diminished.

These days I've gravitated back to superstrats, so the only Gibson I'd be interested in is an M-III, but they're super rare :)

I did go through a mad collecting phase, and have more film cameras than I know what to do with. I still have, but even I am starting to think about getting rid of some of them. To be honest they will never get used.

Im ok with camerss, but if i had a big garage there are deffo some motorbikes ive had and sold that i would buy again in a heart beat...starting with a TL1000S

I would have love to kept my old XR2 Mkii if I had room on the drive, and if the wife was ok with it as that car is worth apx 8.5k now

Try https://analoguerevival.co.uk/product/ricoh-kr5/
and https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1886876922/ricoh-vintage-kr-5-vintage-slr-film
Both look ok but as a former user I guess you'll have a better idea.

I have a fondness for the mid-80s SLRs. When I went to college I hankered after a T70 or P50, but could only afford the Chinon CP-7m. I used to love going into the camera shops in Liverpool, especially the old-style Jessops...

I have picked up both T70 and P50 which I love, but lack that 'new' smell. I am thinking of getting a CP-7m for nostalgia's sake...

If I had to get other cameras, the larger Fuji MFs and Mamiyas would be my pick.

If I wanted another kind of collection:

Saab 99 (1982-84)
Saab 900 4 door poverty spec or GLE, or CD even. Has to have bright window trim.
Gilbern Invader
Stag
NSU TTS

Andrew, thank you for looking, (the last thing I need is another camera).

But, then again, you never know…. ;)

What? It didn’t kill you the first time?
no, even when i snapped the frame ...it was a proper wheelie monster and eventually took out the rear suspension mount, a proper brown trouser moment , it was fun fun fun though, especially with full race pipes on, stage 3 kit, i loved it, every time i see one i want another but ive just got no room for another bike,it wasnt all sweetness though, it ate spark plugs if you didnt give it a bit of throttle, not a bike for bimbling round town on, it needed pinging of the rev limiter, i carried a spare set of plugs in my jacket and could change them in 35 minutes( the front one was a bit of a pain as its behind the rad), what a noise from it, my neighbours hated it, it could set house alarms off

the bike in my profile pic is a FZ1, fantastic bikes, ive ridden all of those bikes except the GT, and the first proper bike i rode was my uncle geoff's KH 350 triple,so mean it had 2 steering dampers on,i can still smell the castrol R, my cousin mark still has a couple of them , i was 12, he had a massive long garden and we use to race up and down it, my mum never spoke to him for ages when i came home with my first bike of my own...bikes for life baby bikes for life

The TLS had a certain reputation…. I rode a TLR once and loved it.
