What design tablet do you use?

my mouse as good as it is my control over it is useless.

so what design tablet can you guys recommend?

i've seen the trust one going on for a few quid on ebay etc but is there a difference in the detailing you can do with the various makes?
 
I'm using a Wacom Intuos4. I've only recently switched over to using a graphics tablet but I can't fault it at all! Retouching is MUCH easier and more accurate.
 
I use a 9x12 Intuos3, it's awesome (I mainly use it for design). You can't really go wrong with Wacom's stuff.
 
yeah I want to improve my retouching - with the mouse i can do so much before ruining the skin tone

i feel with something like the tablet i'd be able to up my level on such things
 
Wacom Graphire4. Pretty basic but has the usual pressure, buttons, scroll etc. They're quite cheap, too :)
Mines only used for photo-retouching, I'm not a designer or Artist.
I found it a huge leap forward over re-touching with a mouse!

Getting a tablet won't improve your retouching, it will make it easier. Spending some money on a good retouch workshop - that will improve your retouching.
 
Wacom Intuos 4 - PTK-640.

Excellent.
 
I have a small Wacom Intuos, the original model, I've probably had it 7 or 8 years, I'd really like to upgrade to an Intuos 4 at some point, but the old one still works perfectly, so I stick with it.
 
Just bought a Wacom Bamboo pen and touch but cannot get it to work correctly. Screen coverage witht he pen seems to jump between full screen and about a quarter of the screen, photoshop only gives about a quarter of the screen coverage. Touch is working for scrolll and rotate commands but not for basic movement. Tried doenloading drivers, reinstalling etc. Think it will need to go back :-(
Shame as it looks quite good.
 
Grrr.. Bought an Intuos4 based on this thread. Was sent 48 hr courier on Monday and I've still not received it...

BTW, I wouldn't recommend an Aiptek. Buy cheap, buy twice... Happened to me ;)
 
Wacom Cintiq 12wx & a Wacom Intuos4 wireless although the latter may be going up for sale shortly.

Always used wacom, always will.

Reloaded everything and now working, really positive so far.
 
wacom bamboo! had it about 18 months or so... wouldn't ever go back to a mouse now, i only do re-touching maybe a couple of hours here and there but i think the stylus is far easier on the wrist to use as a day to day mouse alternative.

Amazon £40 at the moment, with free delivery. no brainer. :thumbs:
 
I use a Wacom Bamboo, too, but mine cost around £80 when it was new. Only used it in Lightroom so far, and only with the adjustment brush. It's nice and sensitive but possibly a little too sensitive: sometimes when I press a little too hard the brush size starts increasing.
 
I use the Wacom Intuos 4. It's a great tablet, well made and solid build. Took me a little while to get used to it.

And STILL hasn't been delivered! Apparently the delivery driver says he hasn't been paid, and is holding a number of parcels to ransom. Give me my parcel now!
 
There is only 1 brand to choose from when it comes to tablets, and that is wacom

Although I would have gone for the intuos 3 myself, I've not seen anything on the 4 which has inspired me to upgrade (except maybe the wireless model), and I have read reports that the textured surface on the 4 is a nib killer. I've been using my intuos 3 daily for 3 years, and replaced the nib once.

I've just plugged in my shiny new Intuos4 medium. It replaced a Aiptek. There is NO contest - the Wacom wins hands down. I might actually be able to get some sensible use out of this tablet as opposed to using the Aiptek as a mouse mat.... I'm loving the buttons and wheel too - they're going to be so useful when actually using the pad.

BTW, if anyone is interested, Jacobs are selling half a dozen off cheap on e-bay (where I got mine from). The only thing I can see wrong with it is that it has a slightly scuffed and rubbed external box. It's brand new otherwise and even still had the security seal as well as the £330 price sticker on it. I made an offer of £250+£8 p&p which was accepted...

Not wrong there. I've had my 4 for a month and first nib is 70% worn. I use the Wacom heavily for beauty/fashion retouching but use a mouse for navigation and browsing. You do get 10 spare nibs with the tablet though so all is not lost.
