thought try again in short have D300s also canon sx710 HS not happy quality of canon looked at Sony compact range but don't want to pay £500 plus for compact any one any thoughts or to get quality out of compact is that what I am going to have to pay ?

You could get a second hand Sony RX100, one just sold here for £160ish, it might even come with some free punctuation.
