Hey, I'm still pretty new to photography but got a bridge camera a couple of months ago (FujiFilm S8400w) and my friend has only just recently got into it too and his getting a Nikon D80 and he keeps telling me to get one saying the quality will be better etc etc I just wondered if anyone would be able to tell me if this is true and would be getting a dslr or whether mine will be pretty much just a good.

Will appreciate any responses
Cheers guys

Depends on what your shooting really. A DSLR will give better quality files as the sensor is bigger and if your shooting fast moving subjects shutter lag will be a problem with your bridge. I would use what you have to learn the basics or until you find your camera is limiting your ability. Also if you buy a DSLR think about what lenses you'll need for example if your using the longer end of your bridge mostly you'll need a up to at least 200mm or vice versa.

To be honest I mainly shoot Motor Racing etc and do find it hard as it does lag so it takes a while to get a good pic does a DSLR take the picture faster then?

Is there any that you could recommend for all round use but mainly fast shooting images for about 300ish

Hi Lewis. You can pick the Sony a58 up brand spanking new for around £320ish with kit lens. This would give you 18-55mm which is a little short for motor racing, but christmas isn't really packed with events anyway so it would give you time to source a longer lens. The Sony 75-300 is a bargain atm, especially for someone just starting out with a dslr. They can be had for under £100 new and are about £80 second hand. You'll get full warranty and a plenty capable camera for your needs.

HTH.
David

Thanks mate appreciate your help so will that be a decent camera In the long run too also what sort of zoom does that separate lens have mate? Sorry don't really know what mm is zoomed and not

No problem. :) yes it will be a nice camera to grow with and hone your skills. It offers alot more than the equivalent Canon or Nikon at this price range. The SLT technology enables a decent burst rate too although it does slow as the buffer gets used up but most cameras do tbh.

300mm is good for motorsport, I shot the f1 testing at Silverstone with a 55-200 and it was plenty from the view point I had.

Have a look here mate...

if you friend has a Nikon how about looking at one two, could always borrow and swap lenses then to.

2nd hand will get you a lot of camera for the money to.

No experience with Canon so can't comment really but the price seems good. Google the a58 vs 1100d and see what results you get... but, I'd also go to the shop and hold them in your hand and see which you like the best.

Arghhh this is so hard lol just found this Nikon too http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5598263.htm I jut want to make sure I get one that will shoot decent and fast for what I mainly takes pictures of. You've been a lot of help mate

Makes sense - higher models also tend to have better AF and you can for example get a used D7000 for a similar price of a new D3200 / D5100 etc..

if you go down the S/H route look at Nikon D7000 less than £400 and a 55-200mm £100, should see you well..

I ended up buying the Nikon D3200 yesterday thanks every one don't suppose any one could recommend a reasonably priced macro lens?

Just remember you'll need to buy lenses with in-built focus motor and VR/VC/OS if you want stabilised images.

The Nikon 40mm is a great macro lens, but if you're wanting to do insects etc then you'll want a decent length such as 90mm plus... the Tamron 90mm will probably be the cheapest option for you but keep an eye out for the Sigma 105mm too. If you're feeling flush then get the Nikon version.

Still reckon you should have bought the Sony. :D

I just thought it would be easier as my mates got a nikon to so can swap lenses etc. Has the Nikon D3200 got a in-built focus then mate?

Sorry mate what does VR/VS/OS stand for and does it have to have all of them or just one? Sorry for all the questions haha

Vibration reduction/vibration stabilisation/optical stabilisation.

Nikon and Canon have image stabilisation built into some lenses, but not others, and if you want to benefit from being able to take crisp pictures handholding at lower shutter speeds then you need to buy lenses with this.

The D3200 does not have a built in focus motor, so you need to buy lenses with the motor built in too, but it will provide autofocus with such lenses.

Just to add, Sony bodies have the stabilisation built into them so no need for it on the lenses. The good thing with Nikon and Canon over Sony and Pentax etc is that there are loads of lenses on the used market. The classifieds here are excellent, not sure if you can access them atm though? Stuff usually goes for way cheaper than ebay too!

Enjoy your new toys though mate, they'll serve you well. :)

It does hae the focus motor built in so you will be fine. Do you need the extra reach over the 55-200 though ? As it's almost double the price

The 70-300 is better for motor sports as it focuses quicker.

Yeah that's what I was thinking mate and least I won't have to get a bigger lens in the future well not yet a while anyway haha

Yeah, but after a trip out today i have found my 300 is no where long enough for what i want. Lol.

Just to clarify, the 70-300 is better for motorsports than the 55-300 you linked to.

Will have to have a look for a 70-300 then mate lol what's the difference?

Will have to try find one did just have a look but couldnt find a 70mm-300mm that says it has the built in motor and vr etc mate for a reasonable price

The one you linked at £250 has a built in motor

Oh really will go for that one then thanks again everyone appreciate all the help!

Whatttt about this one... http://www.loesza.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=149019
I may find one soon mate hahaha
That seems a VERY good price for one of those lenses - thats normally what they go for used so it may be worth checking the company out to make sure everything is ok.
I've not heard of them before so might just be worth a little digging around to see what feedback they have.

Hmmm - your choice but check this out :- http://www.scamadviser.com/is-loesza.com-a-fake-site.html
