What came first - the chicken or the egg?

In our case definitely the chicken. Last weekend we adopted four battery hens who were on their way to be dog food and whilst they are still scrawny and missing feathers they have provided endless amusement in Chez Hacker.

2. B.A. - as in Bald Arse because guess where her feathers are missing from :D

If you fancy proper, fresh, free range eggs I can recommend getting a few chickens, we've had about a dozen eggs so far. As for space, we made a run at the side of the garden measuring about 12'x7' and in time we'll give them access to the garden, at the moment they are still settling in. One of the funniest moments was last weekend the day after we got them, these birds have never been outside and when it started raining they were looking up at the sky with their mouths open.

Ive always wanted chickens, Darren wont let me :D

Plus the cats will freak :D

Apparantly the official terminology for ex battery hens is Re-charge, sure i read that somewhere
(I could be wrong but think it suits anyway)

Nice chuckys

Ours have started chasing the cats :bat:

They're totally free range too, only closed in at night. Only problem is they've started laying wherever they want, getting more and more difficult to find the eggs

Fair play on giving them a good home.

A chicken and an egg check in to a cheap motel room. Moments later the chicken sits up against the headboard and lights a cigarette.

The egg says, “Well, that settles that.” :D

 brilliant. We have been saying for a couple of years we should have chickens, but with foxes around here not to mention the two terrible terriers, I am not sure its totally wise.

Our two Border Terriers have been very interested in them, how dare those pesky chickens invade their territory. Luckily we have a fence between the patio and the rest of the garden otherwise it might be minced chicken for dinner.

I have had a few ex battery hens in the past and they make good layers. Hens will only lay if they are happy and my theory is that when battery hens are let out of prison they are so happy they start laying:lol:
