I suppose one either loves them or hates them, I like discrete ones.

It transforms pictures but, a bad picture will always be a bad picture.

It makes it seem as if the picture/presentation is exactly what the photographer wanted to achieve. If it's a bad picture, it's because someone wanted to make a bad picture with the intention of framing it.
