Yes
I built a small decorative pond for my dad a few months ago - it has a fountain pump running, and it’s not huge - so didn’t put any fish in it. Drained it down a little today to clean the pump - and noticed this amongst the stones on the bottom.

is it just a mouldy peanut or something that’s dropped in the water - or is there something growing ?

you can tell I’m not a pond expert ;) the stones are about an inch to an inch and a half wide.

any thoughts ?

That's interesting - I'm way way from the nearest river stream or water source that I know of - I wonder how it got there. The only thing is the pond pump pulls through water at quite a rate - I can't imagine tadpoles surviving repeated trips through the fountain!

Just toughens them up mate :)

Neighbours with ponds would be my guess ... frogs need still water to lay their spawn in.

Will the pond pump wipe them all out? The garden is fairly enclosed - so not sure how they'll get out if they actually do develop into frogs! (I don't mind a few frogs in the garden mind you) - just didn't think this was really a suitable pond)

Regular hanging basket for scale.

I'm interested now to see whether they might actually make it to frogs.

Wait and see!

I have to say the chances of survival are slim ... mainly due to lack of food rather than the fountain.

Frogs obviously got into the garden (and they are very good for it too.) so they won't have a problem getting out again.

A while ago - I posted this thread - and suggestions might have been that I had frogspawn - well I watched it - and it appeared to disappear - and didn't see any tadpoles - but did notice these little long thin things congregating on the stones. And then I spotted this well disguised little creature moving around - and saw him (or her) dragging a slug to the corner today where the little long things started a feast. They were all taken through the water - so a little blurry - but now I have a few more pictures - what do I have in my pond? :) I haven't seen one of these camouflaged little beetle things before.

I also seem to have a few of these that I didn't think lived underwater:

Water slater in the first pic, some sort of lavae ?mosquito, alderflies? and what looks like a centipede!

Do you mean the obvious grey one or the disguised camouflaged one on the right?

Whatever the larvae are - the camouflaged one was dragging the slug there for them to eat it....
