Yes
I'm getting a 60" Westcott umbrella from B&H - since the shipping for one is $50 would anyone be interested in buying? (four sizes available).

Additional items add roughly $5 dollars each to the shipping cost, so it would be preferable to add additional items to the order. I've no problem with getting them delivered to me then repacking and shipping to people who want one, as I'm off work for a while yet anyway - obviously no labour charge for this.

You would have to pay the price of the goods ordered (including spliting the total cost of shipping) plus P&P from me to you; probably around £3-£4, and might get hit with import duty also - if import duty applies this can be paid by PayPal upon the goods arriving if you wished, as it won't be much anyway.

I don't want to go spiralling off into other areas of the B&H site - keep it simple would suit me. Payment would be by BT to save PayPal fees on the multiple payments if it materialises.

I'll supply home address and both phone numbers to anyone interested just in case anyone thinks I'm at it - a couple of itrader feedbacks on here and 300-odd on eBay under the same user name to assuage any worried about being scammed.

Would probably keep the order down to about 20 items max, initially at least - if it's a success, we could repeat it, possibly with other items...

Just a thought...

Can anyone wishing a definite order please PM me their details...

  • Full Name
  • Address (inc postcode)
  • Details of order
  • Email address

Will keep a list in a spreadsheet until we either have enough to go ahead or the idea is binned...

Ta

Would be interested but the import duty worries me. As soon as Royal Mail get involved they add an extra £8 to process this and then there will be the % of the total order added on by HM Customs

Would be UPS shipping, so probably UPS or private contractor delivery and not RM.

Even with import duty (if it applied) it's still cheaper than buying here - will go check out the possible additional charges now and try to come back with a total price.

*Back* Possible total price based on 43" collapsible...

  • 43" Collapsible - £15.13
  • Shipping - £4.43 (based on 20)
  • Duty @ 5% - £0.97
  • VAT @ 17.5 % - £3.60
  • Postage from me - £4.00

Total: £28.13

There may be a RM or UPS charge, but this would be negligible over 10-20 people.

I would be interested in getting a westcott soft box

Will price additional shipping for these - if feasible will make it brollies/softboxes as this may encourage others to show more interest... def not going outside this scope of these two items at the moment though...

As an example, the Westcott Apollo 28" Softbox adds $10 to shipping - as long as the people ordering softboxes are willing to take the additional hit for the shipping I've no problem with ordering them... anyone wanting total prices for items just PM me or post here.

Sounds a great idea - perhaps post in general as well to catch more interest?

Dunno? but you're offering something useful to members so I dont see why not.

Why not pm one of the mods for the 'talk lighting' section if you're worried - and put a post in there (would be better than 'general' ) - either collecting details there or referring to this one?

I have some of these from eBay 390057206355
Very good quality and a screw off stem too.
Can't be worth while getting one shipped in surely??

Most people would opt for the 43" collapsible which would be a good bit less than buying it from a UK retailer - that 60" on eBay; it says silver/white. If the interior is silver and the outer surface is black, where does the white come into it? It must be reflective only and not shoot through I assume?

37", and comes in a handy sleeve!

Beware though, they are massive!

Not for a windy day outdoors then...

Still trying to understand the silver outer... you can shoot though a silver outer? Can't even see the point in it being silver at all unless it's inside and reflective only.... ah, well...

The umbrella is basically white and you could shoot through it or bounce off it, it is quite soft like that but you loose a couple of stops.
The "cover" is Black with a silver lining. The silver reflects much more light (yes even through the white) and the light is also "harsher". I use 2 of these for indoor macro shots with excellent results.
But paracute does spring to mind, get your measure out and check that they are really what you want!

The 60" Calumet's are great and really nice quality, I got mine in one of their sales for £12!!

I quite fancy a 28" Westcott softbox.

I've got one of those Calumett 60" umbrellas. They're literally like golf/beach umbrellas and are massive. Perhaps unnecessarily so. I don't use mine much as it's just a bit unwieldy. Still, if you're shooting outside and it starts to pour down, you can keep a family of four dry.

I also would be interested in a double fold brolly and pos some other bits I'll have a rumage

missed this thread first time round

Only doing the brollies and softboxes at the moment, sorry, but if you want either of those no problem...

Can only give it another couple of weeks, then after that I won't have the time to do it, so if there is no more definite interest before then the idea will have to be scrapped...

It's only umbrellas or softboxes, mate, but the majority (not that there are many) are wanting the 43" collapsible brolly, or the 28" Apollo softbox for speedlights (the kind that Zack Arias uses in the OneLight video)...

got a lastolite 24" so would be a brolly in that case ;)

PM me details then - I need definite orders please... thanks.

Guys... I'm wrapping this up on Tuesday, as if I don't, I won't have the time to do it before returning to work in a few weeks. The people who ordered softboxes have their prices, and the price as of today for the 43" Westcott Collapsible is £28.30 excluding any courier fees (probably around £1).

These prices are assuming we get hit for Duty/VAT - if not, the price for the 43" will be around £20.

Since I never got the response I hoped for, I've ordered an additional five 43" brollies which I'll sell on eBay or Flickr strobist forum with a little profit... if anyone wishes to cancel, no problem, I'll just sell on the unwanted items.

Will go and do a quick post in the 'Lighting' section later to see if there are any late takers for it... the posts get lost so quickly here that there are likely people who would buy but know nothing about it...

No money required until the goods are safely in the UK and with me.

EDIT: Didn't read the second page!

How much would the Westcott Apollo Speedlight Set come to mate? I was about to buy the softbox on ebay that a TP member linked to..

Ordering tomorrow morning - the 28" Apollo is £105.66 plus courier fees (probably around £1).

Thanks... Think I'm going with the other for now.. sorry!! Very fickle I know. But that is a great price!!!

Ordered and paid for - should be here in around 5 days all going well - may have a little hold up with Courier/Customs, but nothing excessive - will notify everyone of final payments once order is with me and checked.
