Hi, I am shortly going to be buying a Canon 500D (I think) and it looks as though I will have to do so online. Have heard so many horror stories re imitation goods (seen a few very realistic ones) and would be grateful if anyone could reccommend a reliable and reasonable on line outlet?

Thanks.

If you're so concerned about buying online, why not just buy from a high street shop instead? I'm guessing you want to save a few quid, is that right?

Checkout latest UK prices on camerapricebuster if you want a reputable UK dealer.

Otherwise, if you want to save £££ then you could go for a grey import from the likes of DigitalRev, HDEW, Panamoz, OSD etc., but be sure to read the threads here first...

I've not heard any horror stories about imitation DSLR bodies. In fact I recently read on reputable report that such things don't exist as it would be too costly for the fakers to reproduce, so I think as far as bodies are concerned, the only thing you need to worry about is where to buy from.

Thanks for the reply. Problem is we do not have any high street stores nearby that stock this model, hence the online purchase.

500D isnt available new anyway anymore (bar a very few places clearing old stock) , if you are buying second hand i'd recommend MPB photographic as a good place to buy online without getting ripped off

or did you mean the 550D/600D/650D in which case if you want to buy new you could look at WEX, Digital Depot, or even (god forbid) Jessops - or you could go to a reputable grey outlet like flash camera (aka kerso) or digital rev.

and of course there's Amazon, just make sure that they're the ones supplying it and not some potentially dodgy marketplace seller.

out of interest whats wrong with jessops? i purchased my camera a few months back from jessops. great price, good service, and always able to answer questions. This isnt have a go back or stick up for jessops etc, just wondered what the general consensus on jessops is?

Jessops is shall we say variable - some of their staff are great , and some are halfwitted gibbons with no knowledge of photography
