I'm in need of some decent wellies. I've had loads of cheap ones but decided to invest in a pair that'll last.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Cheers.

I can't get wellies to fit me as my calf muscles are to big

Le Chameau neoprene lined and with a full length zip! Excellent. (y)

Hunter.

Had my pair of muc boots now for about ten years full neoprene and so comfortable

Your a week to late as Aldi had them in last Sunday (Neoprene £19:99) so comfortable

I would suggest to try both Aigle and Le Chameau and see which you find most comfortable.

I wasn't impressed by the fit, quality and feet support of Hunter. Le Chameau was very nice but the fit wasn't good for me; either good on the feet and huge around the calves or the other way around.

To me Aigle fitted like a pair of comfortable hiking boots. Very impressed with them for the last two years.

Totally agree with with you, I had a pair of Hunter wellies and gave them away as they were that poor, they are just over-priced trendy boots. Get yourself down to a good fishing shop and try a pair of Grey's or Scierra boots, real wellies designed for standing in water for hours on end,not for ponsing around the paddock.

Bottom line is take opinions by all means, but don't buy until you've tried.
I've had my hunters 9 years, and they're the best I've had.
It really is a case of what suits your feet / legs the best.

I've got le chameau and my missus has aigle.
She uses hers every night doing her horses and has had them about 3 years. She loves them.
My le chameau' share good but could be better. They are also moving production, so quality may go down.

Why wellies ?
I hate them always found a decent pair of hike boots and gaiters work just as well.
Just as another point on Hunters, a local shop has stopped selling them as they reckon the quality has gone down for the price !

Fully agreed. I also wonder whether your hunters were one of the last UK made hunters before they went mass market for city folk.

Regardless; our feet and legs are all different trying them on is the only way to find out.

Another alternative is country boots like Dunbarry or Dublin or my favourites Ariat.

Hunters have gone downhill masively since moving production.

Aigle or le chameau are far superior.

Just beware neoprene can be very sweaty. I've got some neoprene Grub boots which on a walk leave my feet Soaked. My rubber Aigles are comfier and I can wear them all day with no sweaty feet. That said the Grub boots have far superior vibram soles.

I've only ever worn cheap wellies, might explain why I never wear them now

Definitely. I had to have mine made to order, due to wide calves. Mine are leather lined. Brilliant Wellie. Should last me out. :)

Whichever fit properly! I had been looking for a pair for several years until I remembered a shop that stocked lots (about 20) of different makes so I went there, started with the cheapest then worked my way up through the price range until I found a pair that fit me properly. £30 IIRC and (again) IIRC, from one of the tyre companies. Neoprene lined.

Convenience is the reason, Ingrid.

Boots are by far much better for walking and if I was going out for a day's walking that is what I would wear. No question about that. However, I go out 3 times per day. Most of the year I encounter a lot of bog and mud. Very handy just to hose down wellies and kick them off.

Getting into boots and gaiters is a bit tedious.

Yip. Hunter moved production from the UK to China a while back, and they've come in for a lot of flak since then. I agree with you about hiking boots. Most 'wellingtons' are far too wide for me, and I only wear them if I'm going to be walking short distances/standing in very wet places!

I wear wellies a lot, both when out shooting and on my farm, In the past I've always had Hunter's but the quality seems to me to have gone down a lot and I've now moved over to Muck boots, which tick all the boxes for me.
The one downside is that although they give a very good grip on both mud and snow, they're slippery on hard surfaces.

I have cheap wellies which usually last several years but are not great for comfort. My wife's last two pairs of Hunters have lasted six months each as the horse manure has rotted them  Can't remember what she has now but the Chameau seems to ring a bell.

Jack Pyke boots (and gaiters) are my latest in footwear and I've had these for about 3 months, walking once or twice a week over fields, tracks, mud and so on and they're the best outdoor footwear I've owned. Takes a good 5-10 minutes to put my feet on and about the same to clean off and remove at the end of the day. Near enough 100% waterproof and very comfortable.

Cheers for the feedback. Mainly used for togging: standing in ankle high water and walking through boggy land.

I'll have a look at the suggestions

Cheers.

Hi Andy, I've had a pair of Muck Boots for about 6 years now. They are very comfy - I can wear them for a full day no problem. They have good grip and support, the neoprene tops fit comfortably and keep the water out. They're not the cheapest but have been worth every penny!

As an alternative to wellies, and in my opinion well suited for your pursuit you could also consider a pair of waterproof tactical boots. In my experience they are lighter than my Aigle wellies. Provide better grip. And are superbly waterproof.

I've got a pair of these.

Whilst it has a few interesting reviews I taken them with a pinch of salt. They are waterproof through a membrane which makes them remain nice and cool. When in a puddle it feels like water is entering but it is actually staying outside and cools your feet. Once used to the system it makes sense and they are very comfortable. I've done about 350 miles on mine now.

Oh, but again. You've got to try them on like with wellies. I'm used to tactical and army boots and find it very comfortable to walk and run in them. But I appreciate it is not for everyone.

I've had both Hunters and Le Chameau over the years and IMO Le Chameau have the edge, for comfort

I have a pair of muck boots and they are great for winter snow and a bit of pottering but I find them far too hot at other times of year if I have to walk far in them. Very confortable though.

Aigle's parcours outlast

Had mine 2 years take the dogs out for 1-2 hours a day over everything mud and pavement for at least half the year. Also worn on shoots whilst standing around for hours and no really cold toes. Comfy as slippers got a deal on Amazon.

Use walking boots in summer and not as comfy or easy on and off but not as warm.
