Well, that was a pointless exercise :(

Hmm. Got a Konica Autoreflex TC. got a Minolta lens. Got a minolta>Adaptall adapter too. No fit! I had thought Konica and Minolta were the same fitting or am I missing something here? Someone's going to say something "Only the cameras built after 1988"... I just know it :(

Now sitting here with a nice camera, an excellent MD 50mm f/1.4 and nothing to play with :(

I either sell the lens or buy a *cheap* Minolta body - any suggestions for a decent, dead cheap body for my wondeful little lens?

Konica and minolta were 2 different companies, 2 different mounts, as far as I know.....

***dead cheap body for my wondeful little lens?***

The Minolta SRT101b sometimes goes cheap, got mine at the bootie with f1.4 lens for £12, the old mercury battery is still working for the exposure meter.

Only applies to the AF bodies as far as I know.

Konica and Minolta manual lens fittings are different.

Thanks Nick - that'll teach me to do more research!

Mr X, nice price, most I see have dead meters or jammed winders.

Let me just get this right... the Minolta mount is the MD mount is the Minolta mount, regardless of AF or not... the Konica mount is the Minolta mount only if it's the AF, the Konica manual (earlier mount) is Konica, yes?

The mount on a manual focus Minolta film camera is different from a MF Konica film camera.

Yes, but the mount on an AF Minolta is the same as an MF Minolta is the same as an AF Konica... right?

Minolta Manual Lens PRE auto focus = MD mount

Konica mounts pre auto focus and pre link up with Minolta = Konica AR

Minolta auto focus = Minolta AF

Minolta Konica merge AFTER 2003 = Minolta AF

Think they will also fit the Sony DSLR range now as well as Sony took over the Minolta/Konica cameras.

So, Minolta AF is not = Minolta MD then? As in, won't fit?

Nothing! Just want to get a manual body I can use my Rokkor PG 50mm f/1.4 on... but don't wanna end up with a dead-in-the-water one I cannot use!

Only if you use a big hammer and a large wrench  but not sure it would work.

When the world went to AF Canon and Minolta changed there lens mounts to work with the new cameras, meaning that the older MD and FD (Canon) mounts would not be compatible with the new Electronic AF Camera bodies. So both companies brought out a new lens set. If you look at the AF lens will see that they lack the ability for you to set the Aperture on the lens, you do it via the body. :D

Likewise with Konica they dropped there own camera mount and used the Minolta AF one when the companies merged.

The only companies that retained the backward compatibility with there manual focus lens were Pentax and Nikon.

Olympus did there own thing and created a new body/lens set

OK, so Minolta MD is what I need then. Right. Cheers people :D

Oh yeah, and Konica MF for the AutoReflex...

... and so, I think on reflection I am going to start looking for a nice and cheap Minolta X-700... Looks to be about everything I am going to ever need in a nicer looking body too. Bit like the wife :D

or X-500.

X-700's are nice - Minolta's answer to the Canon A-1 (though iirc they actually go there first)

And so the deed is done, bought a cheap one needing a bit of a repair - which is fine by me - condition and price were OK too :D

Doesn't look too bad a soldering job - and if you screw up the cap's that come with the camera, they're only 14p each from Maplin... code VH14Q if needed - they're the 220uF,6.3 volt ones, but will be fine ;)

That's what I thought, and I've still got my CSi soldering station as well as one of them big lit magnifier things. Used to build digital cameras you know!
