I really love my Canon 5DII. I've owned it from new upgrading from the original 5D.

So I have a second full frame body I can use. A few years ago an impulse brought me a low (low 20000s) shutter count 1DS; mostly it lives in the cupboard but comes out from time to time and it's true to say that until this summer I had failed to work out how to get the best out of the camera so it continued living in the cupboard with its low shutter count. I eventually made sense of it in preparation for an all-day car event which I go to every year.

Over the past year and a half I've worked my way through micro 4/3 and had a reacquaintance with Panasonic's LX3/5/7 and in all cases found the outputs a bit disappointing compared to the ergonomics of taking the photos: I just really like FF.

Having finally had a great day out with the 1DS I started to think about a younger 1DS body, maybe a 1DS Mark II, purely on impulse, either as an upgrade or more likely as an addition. So I stared looking round online at EBay, MPB etc. MPB can't supply shutter counts even though other sellers seem to manage it.

1DS to 1DS Mark II? Actually the improvements are relatively limited so what about a 1DS Mark III?

I think I had a notional budget of up to £500.

1DS MkIII would have been do-able but over to DPReview.com to discover that actually, my 5DII has the better spec .:confused:5Dii is equal ore greater than 1DS iii

So there we are, the impulse moment passed harmlessly: it's taken me years to learn that impulses are harmless if you slow things down!

I guess I'll just spend more time getting to know my 1DS. :canon::banana:

For the price and functionality you just pick up a good clean copy of 5D mark III and be done with it. They go for next to nothing for what they are capable of.
That will give you better IQ and better AF than anything mentioned in your post, all under £500.

Or better still D810 if you can stomach system change.

Thanks, but I think no thanks when it comes to root and branch system change.

But when it comes to the 5DIII I had that very same thought yesterday. It is still just an impulse but it would make perfect sense - in a warped man logic way at least. All the lenses fit, I read online that it's significantly up from the 5DII. Just don't, in fact please don't ask me to justify how I'd choose which camera on any given day. I'm not yet ready to part with either the 5DII or the 1DS so this would be an additional body.
I'm already rationalising that it would be my "small" body as the 5DII has always lived on a battery grip.

It might give me good reason to let go the Bessa R & Voightlander lens rangefinder kit. Hardly replacing like with like but who needs rationality?
