I just popped onto a certain photo hosting website that begins fli and ends in ckr to be greeted by a mail from a chap who works for the Royal College of Music asking if they could use an image I took about 5 years ago in their promotions. To bl**dy right they can.
Delicate negotiations are under way as they do have a budget to pay for licencing images although as they are a charity I will probably let them have it for a pittance.
It's not a film shot but I didn't want to share it with those lot out there...they're strange and won't appreciate it.

Well done Andy! Always a feather in the cap when someone ASKS to use an image. Hope it all pans out, and when/if you can, show it to us or post a link!

Thanks Baz. It was this one.

Graemsay-Lighthouse_-Orkney by andysnapper1, on Flickr

They want to use it on the promotion for a performance of Sir Peter Maxwell Davies' The Lighthouse, on the website and on the diary of events catalogue thing. It appears that it was this lighthouse that was his inspiration as he lives on Sanday (one of the Orkney Isles) and saw this every time he left Stromness by boat for the mainland.
Coincidentally a family friend also lives on Sanday and knows Sir Peter and we had been visiting them when I took the shot.

Nice one Andy. Fame at last. (Shame there's no fortune)

Well done Andy, it certainly beats my Stuff magazine shot hands down.

Nice one Andy, great shot as well.

Must be a nice thing to have, a published credit.

Nice one!

You must feel very good, well done Andy.

congratulations.... great photo...can see why they would want it to illustrate the performance.

Well done! I can see why they'd want it, it's a gorgeous photo. Really atmospheric.

Thanks folks. It was taken only a few months after I got my first DSLR so there was quite a lot of 'more luck than judgement' involved.
Anyway we've come to an amicable agreement over payment. I've not charged them as much as I would have normally (whatever that is) as they are strictly speaking a charity but I will be getting a credit every time its used, copies of the programme and free tickets to the performance, so its all good.
Cheers

Andy

Nice one Andy- doesn't quite equal the New York Times though! (Caveat- the shot that appeared was nowhere near as nice as yours!) ;)
