nice shot, i'd be tempted to try cropping in the top and bottom a bit if i was being critical. Like the stars on the lights

Nice Alex  see what you mean about the lights a t the bottom of the hotel, agree with the crop off the top and I think I would go for a crop off the left also, to make a nice L shape composition, hope you dont mind the edit

I think that image works really well, especially after the crop. I can see why you're not happy with the lights at the bottom of the hotel though, especially as you've controlled the lighting in the rest of the shot so well. I'm a complete novice with photoshop so I have no clue how you'd sort it out in pp, would love to learn how though.

Hiya Alex,

Well done on getting your first shot for the 52.

I really like this photo, especially the starburst of the lights, it's a pity the water wasn't more still to reflect same in the water, but not much you could have done about that.

I can see what you mean about the lighting at the bottom of the hotel, not sure how to correct that either, so if anyone has any advice on how that could be sorted it would be great to learn too. I also prefer the crop, as Dave said to make it more L shaped.

Not sure if it is just my eyes playing tricks, but it may need a very slight straighten, i.e., to tilt the building a bit to the left, but only slightly, which will then correct the horizon. But then that might just be me being nit-picky.

The only other thing is to maybe clone out the 2 little whitish spots in the low cloud above the tree on the left of the building. They seem draw my eye to them.

To answer your question, I don't think it is at all messy, with an even balance of the landscape to reflection. I especially love the colours you have captured in the building and street lights, plus the yellow tree.

Well done and I look forward to seeing your next 51 photos.

Cheers

Dawn :)

Hi Alex,

Really liking that shot - love the street lights, and the reflections are sweet too.

Keep it up mate

Hi Alex
Like the first weeks effort, specially the star bursts in the street lights, water reflections are quite good aswell. Good luck for the rest of the year....Mick

nice like that a lot  your 2nd edit looks very nice good composition all round :) good pic well done

how did you get the starburst lights?
or is it just... how they come out on night shots?

I'm planning a night shot for the monthly challenge, and hope to get sort of the same effect...

you can buy a filter for this effect but i always seem to do it without lol

settings were iso 100 , 30 seconds speed , F8

Nice one Alex good start to your 52.

Great 1st pic for the challenge:thumbs:. Spot on for the theme too. Like the reflections and starbursts. The yellow light in the middle really lifts the shot. Good luck with next week.

Cheers, Patrick

Hiya Alex,

I like your take on the new theme, especially as you are awaiting your new arrival :)

The image would benefit from a slight crop to remove the shadow at the end of the cot.

Otherwise I think it a sweet and lovely photo.

Cheers

Dawn :)
