have been around searching previous posts ,and got the opinion we still have it about right for our area/prices etc,
we do a proofbook of smallish images, dvd slideshow and online proofs. (open or pass worded according to clients wishes.)

what i want to ask is, do any of the other wedding togs out there get grief from clients about number of proofs?.
i thought we were pretty generous with proofs , but weve had a bride recently giving us major grief because we ONLY provided 400 odd proofs.
and theyre having a 40 print package.
apparently they wanted ALL the pics taken during the day.
we very nicely expalined that many of the "posed" shots are duplicated incase of closed eys/looking elsewhere ,etc, and that we only include the shots of the highest quality.
if a shot has a distracting background for instance or just isnt "right" its excluded.
she even complained cos our dvd images are watermarked with the company logo.(never been a problem to our other clients).
she doesnt particularly like it, but we pointed out that our contract says our proofs will be OUR SELECTION of shots from the day.
are we being unreasonable, or is she?

If she had EVERY shot from the day, (like you said, duplicates, closed eyes etc) she would prob moan that you didnt take them out.

And of course they will be watermarked! What did she expect? I am sorry, she sounds totally demanding and unreasonable.
 
There's always one! The service you're offering is more than reasonable!

Tell her the next time she gets married :D if she books you again, to read the small print before the big day!!! :rules:

In all honestly, if I were a client for a wedding package, I wouldn't want the photographers logo over *every* image on the DVD, to me that's overkill. Showing your full screen logo at the start and end of the DVD would be sufficient and sends the message just as well.

Online however, they all need the watermark of course.

As for wanting all proofs, that just illustrates her lack of understanding about photography :)
 
the watermarking is pretty subtle, but prevents the occasional a.. holes from copying it.
we didnt used to watermark the proofbooks, until a photograph from the proofbook appeared on a brides mantlepiece , when we went to collect reprint and album selections. we didnt say owt on that occasion.

Is the DVD slideshow a "movie" or just a data disc with a viewer app? If it's a movie I certainly wouldn't put a watermark on any of the shots but can understand why you'd do it for a data disc.

I don't actually watermark any of my wedding shots online and present them at a higher res and quality than the main gallery but they still wouldn't make very good prints.

As for the number of proofs 400 sounds about right but I guess it depends on how much coverage you provided to start with. My proof count varies between 200 and 500 depending on how long I was there and what was going on - some of the quieter weddings with only 30 guests makes it hard to get many shots to start with. Other weddings with lots going on will bump the number up significantly.
 
You are a professional, that means it is your profession! You have to make money to survive and unfortunately there are people out there that haven't the faintest idea :bang: Sounds like someone that wants you to do all the hard work and then lift the pictures off the DVD and take them down to Tescos to get printed on the cheap bypassing you!

400 proofs is more than reasonable, very much more. The duplicate/blurred/bad etc pictures are not for public display by their very nature. If you let her see them they would adversely affect your reputation so stand firm.
